The thunderstorms started last night after he went to bed, so I didn't have to try to explain what the loud booming in the sky was to a 2 year old until this afternoon. He woke up from his nap asking, "what is that mommy?"
"It is thunder baby."
"It's funder? It's fuuuuunder! Okay mommy."
He has talked about nothing else for the past hour. Thunder will boom, and he from across the house will yell, "What is that?"
"It's still thunder Bear."
"Still funder? Okay."
He consoled Tela for about 10 minutes, who had shown no interest whatsoever in the thunder.
"It's okay Teea. It's still funder. It's okay."
He spent about 5 minutes searching the house for something. Under couches, behind doors, lifting pillows, opening cabinets.
"What are you looking for Bear?"
"Funder mommy. Where is funder?"
"It's in the sky Bear."
"Funder in the sky? Okay."
"Funder in the sky!"
"I see funder?"
"No honey you can't see thunder. It is for your ears not your eyes."
Thunder booms "What is that?"
"It is still thunder Bear."
"Okay mommy. Thank you."

At least he recognizes it as something new, Elliot just keeps saying "Windy mama, Windy!"
